Winter Weather Advisory for Lake Tahoe - Up to one foot of snow above 7,000 ft level

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Quiet weather will prevail most of today before the next storm impacts the Sierra tonight into Wednesday. The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Lake Tahoe from 1:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.

There will be mountain snow and very light rain for far western Nevada valleys.

Snow is expected for Lake Tahoe: 6 to 12 inches above 7000 feet and west of Highway 89, up to 3 inches possible at lake level. It will be windy with gusts as high as 90 mph along the crest, making for hazardous boating conditions on Lake Tahoe with gusts up to 40 mph.

The heaviest period of snowfall is expected early Wednesday morning.

This storm will not be as potent as the system which moved through on Sunday but
will still provide travel difficulties across northern Sierra passes. At this time there is a chance of snow or rain daily with a new storm this weekend (though it's total effects will become more evident as it moves closer).
