South Lake Tahoe public meeting to discuss new wireless facility ordinance

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Want to help craft the City of South Lake Tahoe's new wireless facility ordinance? The City is holding another public meeting to focus on the future of communications systems on Thursday, January 16 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tahoe Beach Retreat's conference room, 3411 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

The public will be joined by City Council, Planning Commission and staff to discuss the ordinance which will guide the future of cell towers, mini-towers and other forms of wireless facilities in South Lake Tahoe.

“We want to ensure the public has input on possible regulations to be incorporated in a draft ordinance addressing both small cell and macro communication facilities,” said Kevin Fabino, Development Services Director.

During Tuesday's City Council meeting, former mayor Brooke Laine said the City is behind on developing an ordinance and it is something that should have been done long ago. The speed at which these facilities are being installed in order to keep up with public demand caught many by surprise across the world. There has been one cell tower approved on Ski Run Blvd., and that won't fall into the new ordinance but all future ones will once it is drafted and approved.

This meeting will be live-streamed on the City's Facebook page, @CityofSLT. It will also be televised the next day on Channel 21.
