Damaged shorezone structures streamlined by TRPA

In response to recent high-wind events, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency has instituted a streamlined process to help homeowners who need to make repairs to wind and wave-damaged shoreline structures in the waters of Lake Tahoe.
“We’re concerned that recent high winds in the Lake Tahoe Basin may have caused damage to structures in the Lake including piers, boathouses and shoreline protective structures,” explained TRPA Shorezone Coordinator, Ken Kasman. “We want to work with property owners who need to stabilize these structures and avoid further deterioration that could potentially compromise Lake Tahoe’s water quality,” Kasman said.
A declaration form for property owners that have sustained storm damage to boathouses and piers is available at trpa.org and will remain in effect throughout the winter storm season. Activities which result in expansions, additions or modifications to existing structures will not be considered through this streamlined process and should utilize the regular shorezone project application processes instead.
Shorezone property owners who have questions, or to wish to initiate the streamlined declaration process, are encouraged to contact Ken Kasman, TRPA Shorezone Coordinator, at (775) 589-5253 or via email at kkasman@trpa.org.
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency cooperatively leads the effort to preserve, restore, and enhance the unique natural and human environment of the Lake Tahoe Region now and in the future. For additional information, call Kristi Boosman at (775) 589-5230 or send an email to kboosman@trpa.org .
