Mayor Creegan declares January 20 Miss Marcia Day in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Lake Tahoe Mayor Cristi Creegan declared today, January 20, as Miss Marcia Day in honor of Marcia Sarosik, founder of Lake Tahoe’s Shining Stars.

Marcia was dedicated to the youth of South Lake Tahoe for decades and represented the spirit of the South Lake Tahoe community. The mayor said it was essential for the City to commemorate her life on what would have been her 67th birthday.

“Miss Marcia was our own Shining Star and we miss her tremendously," said Mayor Creegan. Her joy, dedication, and love made an indelible impact on the community, which will continue to be felt for generations.”

Marcia touched thousands of lives through her dance studio, Marica Sarosik Dance, and the non-profit arm, Lake Tahoe Shining Stars. She taught dance to school children and preschoolers, created the choreography for musicals at the high school, donated funds, and helped those in need with dance classes, all while operating the dance studio. She dedicated her life to helping others through her love for both dance, and the youth of the community.

Marcia was chosen by the City to run with the Olympic Torch through South Lake Tahoe exactly 21 years ago, on her 46th birthday. She epitomized the torch run's theme, “Light the Fire Within” as she was the light for so many. The torch went through South Lake Tahoe on January 20, 2002, on its way to Salt Lake City for the Winter Games.

She passed away unexpectedly on June 5, 2022.
