Rain and snow mid-week around Lake Tahoe; High of 50 on Sunday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Plan on another round of rain, mountain snow, and
gusty winds that persist through Monday. The National Weather Service (NWS)in Reno says there is another chance of showers Wednesday into Thursday, and the final week of January is trending towards mild and drier.

This weekend's storm affected some upper elevations and there was just rain at lake level, as was forecast. It was hit or miss on snow, depending on the area of Sierra. Sierra-at-Tahoe had 4" of snow Saturday night, Heavenly received none, Kirkwood 2", Palisades Tahoe recorded 8" and Mt. Rose 4"-6". Temperatures will remain 40 degrees or higher in the week ahead, with next Sunday's high expected to be 50. The average for this week is a high of 40, and a low of 24.

The forecast from NWS Reno for South Lake Tahoe:

Monday - Rain and snow before 10 am, rain likely between 10 am and 4 pm, then rain and snow likely after 4 pm. Snow level 6800 feet. High near 40. Southwest wind around 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%—new snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

Monday Night - Rain and snow showers are likely before 10 pm, then there is a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 22. South wind around 5 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Tuesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 43. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning.

Tuesday Night - Snow likely after 4 am. Increasing clouds, with a low of around 20. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph after midnight. The chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Wednesday - Rain and snow, becoming all rain after 1 pm. Snow level is 6500 feet rising to 7100 feet in the afternoon. High near 40. Southwest wind around 5 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Wednesday Night - A chance of rain showers before 7 pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 7 pm and 1 am, then a chance of snow showers after 1 am. Snow level 6900 feet lowering to 6300 feet after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. The chance of precipitation is 50%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Thursday - A slight chance of snow showers before 10 am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 42.

Thursday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 22.

Friday - A slight chance of showers after 10 am. Snow level is 7100 feet rising to 8500 feet in the afternoon. Partly sunny, with a high near 46.
