SNC student's project brings new shed to Bijou Bike Park

Not all college seniors know what they'll be doing the day after they graduate, but Weston Park does.

The 23-year-old Sierra Nevada College student is majoring in sustainability with a focus on entrepreneurship. When he graduates in May he is committed to Tahoe Shed Company of South Lake Tahoe.

He has already hit the road running.

For Park's senior project he teamed up with Bret Hackett, owner of green builder Healthy Home Consultants and Tahoe Shed Company, to bring a new and secure shed to Bijou Bike Park.

"This shed will provide a gathering place and shelter for the volunteers and bike park employees," said Hackett, who donated everything needed for the project. "It will also serve as a concession for all of the BMX races."

"We feel that this shed will add to the beauty and function of our local bike park with a shed designed and built in the mountain architecture vernacular", Hackett added.

"Our previous shed was aging and becoming too small and unsecure for our needs at the park," said Chris McDade, Facilities Manager/Builder for Bijou Bike Park. "A new shed was on the wishlist from the start. We are all blown away by how beautifully it ended up both inside and out. It is an attractive and hugely-functional addition to our park.

One thing during the project process that Park earned was Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and their requirements for building.

"TRPA is a hurdle, but something we can manage and work with," said Park.

When Park graduates he will become a "jack of all trades" with Tahoe Shed Company.

"I'll do sales, designing, a bit of everything from building, marketing and business development," said Park. "Its exciting for me."

The shed at Bijou Bike Park is just a glimpse into what the company can bring to homes. Park said there will be different sizes, including 8'x 8' to the basic model of 10' x 12'.

"They are prefabricated for four basic sizes, shed roof (single pitch) and gable roof with two pitch," said Park. "They are high quality with snow load already taken into consideration."

The will be able to play with sizes and if you're looking for a "she-shed" they have just the thing!

"They are right up our alley along with storage sheds, art studios, wood shops and man caves," said Park.

"I am extremely grateful for this opportunity," added Park.
