Share stories on aging and caregiving at South Lake Tahoe LIbrary recording booth

Event Date:
February 7, 2024 - 1:00pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Libary is hosting the Big Read - Story Recording Booth on Wednesday, February 7 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

New Yorker cartoonist Roz Chast has written a memoir, Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant? Chast brings her signature wit to the topic of aging parents. Spanning the last several years of their lives and told through four-color cartoons, family photos, and documents, and a narrative as rife with laughs as it is with tears, Chast's memoir is both comfort and comic relief for anyone experiencing the life-altering loss of elderly parents.

The public has a chance to record their own stories about caregiving and growing older in America. Arts and Culture El Dorado is stopping at all libraries in the county with this program. They provide the prompts and the guidance – you provide the story. Recorded stories will be compiled into an oral history anthology featuring an original soundtrack.

Talking with parents about death or just growing older can be a difficult conversation. Step into the storybook and share your stories on the topic, share how family stories have affected your life, and/or what you enjoy about getting older.

How does your understanding of yourself change as you mature journey of aging?
