Quick moving storm passing by Lake Tahoe Sunday; Big drop in temperatures Monday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On Sunday a sharp cold front will rapidly push through the region, bringing strong winds and a quick burst of snow. The widespread southwest winds Sunday morning will be shifting to the northwest behind the front.

A Lake Wind Advisory is up for Lake Tahoe until 7:00 p.m. Sunday. The strongest winds are anticipated to be near and south of US-50, with US-395 possibly seeing travel restrictions for high profile vehicles.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, Monday and Tuesday will be cold, certainly compared to what we`ve seen recently. Temperatures Monday will be about 30 degrees colder compared to Saturday. Brisk north winds will bring wind chills in the teens and 20s in warmer valley locations with well below-zero reading in the higher elevations of the Sierra. Snow showers are possible in this cold air mass, including lake effect snow squalls south of Pyramid, Tahoe, and Walker Lakes.

High pressure will build up again on Wednesday with another 'slider` type system possibly impacting the region next weekend. This looks like another system without much moisture but could bring another round of gusty winds along with aviation and fire concerns, abrupt cooling, and a burst of snowfall along with travel concerns.
