Kudos: Soroptimist of South Lake Tahoe and STHS “S” Club feed community members

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe (SISLT) and South Tahoe High School (STHS) service organization, the ‘S’ Club, joined together to host Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on February 2.

To provide the opportunity for members of the STHS “S” Club to experience the benefits of volunteering, SISLT financially sponsored the Adopt A Day of Nourishment and invited the “S” club to send an Adopt A Day (AAD) crew to help at the evening’s dinner event.

Staffing the AAD crew were “S” Club members Ellie James, Ayslin Lavars, Caraima Ortega, Joshua Ortega, Vanessa Sandoval, and Deia Steinmetz along with the “S” Club Advisor Anne Filce and SISLT Past-President Janey Roeser.

It was a first-time experience for all of the AAD crew members, but they jumped right in and did a great job of helping the Bread & Broth volunteers provide a hot meal and bags of food staples to the evening’s dinner guests.

“This is my first time helping out at a Bread & Broth meal and definitely won’t be my last,” shared Vanessa. “Seeing everyone’s face light up when they receive food warms my heart and makes me feel blessed for the things I have. This experience has inspired me to continue helping others in any way I can.”

It was a busy evening for the AAD crew. During their two-and-a-half-hour volunteer experience, they wrapped silverware, packed bags of food, set up the drink and dessert table, served Hungarian Goulash over noodles, sauteed cauliflower, and a tomato salad, handed out bags of food, dried dishes, and ended their evening with the meal’s cleanup and breakdown.

During a break in her volunteer duties, Ayslin also shared her thoughts. “This experience has been amazing and meeting new people has been fantastic. I love to help people. Thank you for giving me this experience,” she said.

Kudos to SISLT for their ongoing efforts to empower women and youth by providing opportunities for growth through community service experiences, service grants, and scholarships. Thank you to the STHS “S” Club members for their commitment to serving and helping others and representing the best of the youth in our community.
