Numerous power outages around the Lake Tahoe region

A strong storm advancing through the Lake Tahoe area is causing isolated outages for some of Nevada Energy and Liberty Utilities’ customers. With winds at 35-50 mph and much stronger gusts over the ridges, utility officials would like to remind customers of the following safety measures.

- Always treat low hanging and downed power lines as if they were energized.
- Call 911 or notify Liberty Utilities’ toll-free emergency number at 1-844-245-6868 if you see downed power lines or damaged electrical equipment.

- Secure outdoor furniture or other outdoor decorative items that can be blown away by high winds and damage power lines or your home.
- Keep your flashlights handy with fresh batteries in case of an outage. Do not use candles if possible.
- If you experience an outage, turn off all electrical appliances to avoid overloading circuits and to prevent fire hazards once the power is restored. Try not to open your refrigerator during the outage.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the East Fork Fire District are responding to numerous call of downed power lines and flying debris from this current wind event. Currently Genoa Lane, Muller Lane and Tolar Road are closed due to fires ignited by down power lines. Please use caution driving for flying debris and down lines.

“Our crews are responding to reported outages as quickly as we can,” according to Mike Smart, Liberty Utilities-CA President. “We’ll continue to monitor and respond accordingly until this storm passes.”
