South Tahoe's Syndney McCarthy signs with Marymount California University

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Sydney McCarthy, a four-sport varsity athlete at South Tahoe High School (STHS), is headed to Marymount California University to play softball for the Mariners. In front of family and friends, she signed her letter of intent on National Signing Day Wednesday.

A South Lake Tahoe native, Sydney has earned Rookie of the Year and Softball MVP honors while with the Vikings and was team captain last year.

She has also excelled in the classroom as well in her other sports of golf, volleyball, and cheer.

Sydney's mother Denise said her daughter showed her athletic prowess almost as soon as she started to walk. That was proven this past fall when Sydney, who had never been a golfer, ended up as one of the top players for the team who had their best season finish ever.

McCarthy played for the Nevada Lightning 18U team and now travels twice a week to Sacramento to play on the All American Mizuno-Bautista 18U team.

While at Marymount, McCarthy will be a utility player, but her experience is at 1st base, 3rd base, and outfield. She hasn't narrowed down her major yet but is focusing on either Child Psychology or Pre-Chiropractic.

Sydney credited her teachers for making an impact in her life and thanked friends for being with her along the way. She also said the addition of the Sports and Conditioning program at STHS has helped her be stronger and better prepared as an athlete.
