Imagine being a child who has to navigate the legal system at a young age. Since no one can expect children to know what to do there is CASA, the Court Appointed Special Advocate. These volunteers work for the best interest of children who are in the foster care system, abused, neglected and at-risk.
Think of all the people involved: social workers, attorneys, foster parents, biological parents, and more. The CASA volunteer ensures that the child's needs are being met while in the system, just as these others in their lives do.
The Volunteer is also the child's voice in court, providing their perspective on what is happening in their life.
In South Lake Tahoe, more CASA volunteers are needed. Volunteers are compassionate, caring adults who want to make a difference in a child's life, and the CASA team is grateful for them.
There is another training session coming up on the South Shore:
April 17, 24, and May 1. 8, and 22 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday June 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
