The Republican Women of California - South Lake Tahoe held its annual Lincoln/Reagan dinner at The Bistro at the “Y” on February 8. Congressman Kevin Kiley was the guest speaker after attending earlier a reception honoring John Cristando of John’s Cleaners for 55 years of being in business in South Lake Tahoe and his service in World War II.
Congressman Kiley and his new bride, Chelsea, were welcomed by an enthusiastic group of 46 guests. Representative Kiley spoke about his election to Congress from the 3rd Congressional District which is vast and includes Plumas, Sierra, Nevada, Placer, Alpine, Mono, and Inyo, and parts of Yuba, El Dorado, and Sacramento counties. He said he is honored to serve.
Congressman Kiley expressed that all of us need to continue to speak up about protecting our communities, fiscal responsibility, and listening to the needs of the people of the District. He expressed grave concerns about the lack of security on our southern border and the need for the administration to address the issue. He pointed out that the soft-on-crime California Proposition 47 must be repealed to bring safety back to our communities. The initiative to end Prop 47 has so much momentum it was endorsed by the mayors of SF and San Jose. You can request to sign a petition and it will be mailed to you (www.End47.com).
The Prop 47 Initiative has over 300,000 signatures and is getting closer to qualifying for the November ballot. Representative Kiley noted in his recent Blog post that “This could be a major turning point in the fight to save our state”. And, it is needed more than ever.
Just over the last month:
In San Francisco, the iconic store that inspired Toy Story closed after 86 years.
In Oakland, In-N-Out closed a restaurant for the first time.
In LA, the famous Sweet Lady Jane closed all six locations permanently after 35 years.
The Congressman’s bill to end sanctuary policies is moving through Congress.
Despite successes, monumental problems remain. The southern border just saw the most illegal crossings in a single day ever.
Congressman Kiley will continue to fight radical policies, try to improve the performance of government rather than restricting the freedom of citizens, and work to usher in a new post-COVID era of sanity for California.
The Republican Women of California - South Lake Tahoe (RWC-SLT) meets most months on the second Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, please email us at: sltrepublicanwomenofca@gmail.com
