Douglas County hires new Social Services manager

Douglas County has announced the hiring of the new Social Services manager. Caren Witt began working in this new role on February 1 and will be managing Social Services, Community Health Center, Adult Day Club, and the Senior Homemakers Program.

Witt obtained a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2012 and a Master of Social Work from the University of New England in 2017.

Prior to joining Douglas County, Witt worked as the Master Renal Social Worker for Fresenius Medical Care and Dialysis Clinic, Inc. from 2014 until 2021. Before her work at Fresenius Medical Care, she was at the Nevada Division of Health and Human Services; Division of Child and Family Services as a social worker.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to serve our residents and be part of the vision and implementation of the Douglas County Community Services Department mission,” said Caren Witt.

Before transitioning to the field of social work, Witt was a previous local business owner of Full Circle Compost, Down on the Farm Country Gift Store and Tours, and Milky Way Farm, Inc.

Caren Witt has been married to her husband Craig Witt for 39 years and they have 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law’s: Cody (wife Bronagh Kelly), Connor (fiancé Allison Floyd), and Colton. Together they enjoy spending time with family and friends, outdoor activities, gardening, their dogs and travel.

The Social Services Department is responsible for managing, coordinating, and directing the County’s social services programs; to ensure effective and appropriate welfare, social services, and community action programs are provided and delivered to County residents.

This was a competitive application process and it yielded strong candidates, said the County.
