Volunteer drivers needed for South Lake Tahoe Senior Nutrition program

The El Dorado County Senior Nutrition Program in South Lake Tahoe continues to have a great need for community volunteer drivers to help deliver lunchtime meals to homebound seniors and other vulnerable residents. The meals are prepared by the Senior Nutrition Program and the volunteers deliver those meals.

Most volunteers are asked to help one day a week, though more is appreciated. Drivers cover an assigned route, delivering meals between 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., starting at the Senior Center in South Lake Tahoe.

El Dorado County’s Senior Nutrition Program is one of many national senior nutrition programs funded under the Older American Act of 1965.

“We are very proud to have this program available for local residents,” said Jillien Smith, Program Supervisor with El Dorado County Senior Services. “The program fills an important nutritional and social need for local participants, and home-delivered meal volunteer drivers provide one more link in our community’s older adult support network. I hope those who are interested in volunteering will consider attending the volunteer orientation on February 16th.”

This important program helps some of our county's most vulnerable people get a nutritious meal and see a friendly face.
