CASA brings back their Box Lunch fundraiser to South Lake Tahoe - Postponed

Event Date:
March 17, 2020 (All day)

ALL TAX AIDE SESSIONS HAVE BEEN CANCELED DUE TO CONCERNS AROUND THE CONORAVIRUS.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Court Appointed Court Special Advocates (CASA) of El Dorado County are holding their 24th annual CASA Box Lunch fundraiser on Thursday, April 2, and for the first time in years people in South Lake Tahoe can participate once again.

Box Lunch 2020 is dedicated to Judge Patrick Riley. In 1992, the Judge founded CASA El Dorado, a program designed to help children navigate what can be terrifying times inside the courthouse. He retired from the bench in 2002 and died on Christmas Eve, 2019 at the age of 89.

The box lunch program is an easy one. Fill out an order form online (or get one from a local CASA office or have one mailed) by March 17 and the meal is delivered by a volunteer by noon on April 2. Businesses and schools are encouraged to order so lunch can be enjoyed as a group while supporting CASA.

While the county-wide program has had the box lunch fundraiser for years, the South Lake Tahoe one stopped several years ago and is now being resurrected.

The order form is full of 13-oz wraps:

Turkey, cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce with chipotle aioli on whole wheat wrap.

Spinach, tomatoes, sprouts, fire-roasted peppers, toasted sunflower seeds, and basil lemon zest cream cheese on spinach wrap.

Ham, swiss cheese, roasted tomato, pepperoncini and chive dijon aioli on whole wheat wrap.

A West Slope caterer is making the sandwiches and they'll be delivered to South Lake Tahoe so volunteers can head out and deliver to purchasers.

The wraps come with chips, cookie, and apple juice, all packaged in an insulated reusable lunch bag. Each lunch costs $13.50. There are no gluten-free options at this time.

CASA hopes to sell 3,000 of the lunches. Last year they delivered to over 200 businesses.
