Fire displaces four families from Kingsbury Grade complex

STATELINE, Nev. - Four families are displaced this evening after fire significantly damaged two units of a Kingsbury Grade area fourplex.

On Friday, February 22 at just before 5:00 p.m., crews from Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) responded to a residential structure on Tina Court at the top of Kingsbury Grade. Upon arrival, they found an active fire and called in the East Fork Fire and South Lake Tahoe Fire departments as backup.

All four units were occupied at the time and one person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

The fire was caused by the snow load shifting on the roof, resulting in an ice damn breaking and an icicle dropping and severing a gas line that was feeding a gas heater. The fire was in the walls where the heater was located. The fire burned units C and A, and there is smoke damage in units B and D.

The Red Cross is on its way to assist the four families.

The fire is extinguished and crews will remain on scene to conduct a safety briefing before beginning clean up of the damaged structure.

North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District in Incline Village came to the South Shore to cover the area as TDFPD worked the fire.
