South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge's March for Food to benefit Christmas Cheer

SOUTH LAKE TAHOD, Calif. - During the month of March, the South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge is conducting a food drive in support of the local non-profit organization Christmas Cheer, which is a year-round emergency food pantry.

Joanne Shope, a long-time member of the Women of the Moose has headed up Christmas Cheer for many years and spends hundreds of volunteer hours assisting individuals and families until they can help themselves. She addressed the members of the Moose Lodge in January and said, “We appreciate any assistance that members, or the community at large, can provide in assisting our fellow citizens in times of need."

The “March for Food” will be conducted at the Moose Lodge during the entire month of March 2022. Donations of any non-perishable food items, such as canned tuna, peanut butter, canned vegetables, soups, dry pasta, and other basic essentials are requested. In addition to food items, Christmas Cheer accepts clothing and personal items such as toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, dishes, towels, glasses, pans, etc.

Donations may be dropped off in a barrel located inside the Moose Lodge at 961 Eloise Avenue, South Lake Tahoe, any day between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Cash donations are also much appreciated and if using a check, make them payable to Christmas Cheer.

Making communities better places in which to live is a major portion of the mission of the Moose fraternity. Across the country, Moose lodges annually contribute monetary donations, and along with the value of miles driven and hours served, totals more than $75 million. From small projects to large undertakings, from local programs to national and international partnerships, the men and women of the Moose are there – and they are reliable, compassionate, and genuine in their responses to the needs of others. Our goal is for residents, both members, and non-members, to see the Moose as “The Heart of the Community.”

The nonprofit is located at 1120 Third Street, South Lake Tahoe. They are open from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays. The Christmas Cheer phone number is 530.542.4934 but normally answered only during open hours.
