Admit it, you've been waiting for a box of Thin Mints or Caramel Delights. Right? If not those two flavors, what is your favorite?
South Lake Tahoe Girl Scouts were spotted at several locations around town on Friday, selling their famous cookies. The girls selling from their table in front of the Bijou Safeway sold over 130 boxes in just their first couple of hours.
A tradition since 1917, girls growing through the ranks of Brownies, Cadettes and Girl Scouts have had the job of selling cookies annually to help raise money for their troups.
Many of us remember walking around our childhood neighborhoods with their large boxes containing 10 smaller boxes of cookies, selling each for $1. Though the prices have rised to their current price tag of $5, millions of people across the country will buy a box (or two, or 12) during the selling season.
There is now an easy way to find where cookies are being sold in South Lake Tahoe, or wherever you happen to be. Girl Scouts have gone high tech with both a free App and an on-line tracking tool. No more need to drive cross town in hopes of finding that elusive box of Thin Mints.
Visit this webpage and enter your zip code. By entering 96150 on Friday night I found that there will be sales at Bijou Safway from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Tahoe Wellness Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Lira's from 10 a.m. to noon and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and at Safeway at Round Hill from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. No able to get out on Saturday? No worries....there are plenty of more sales on Sunday!
On that same webpage there is also a link to download the App for androids and iPhones. How convenient!
If you're Gluten-Free you can enjoy a box of cookies this year as well.
