Berkeley man run over by truck he was helping push up hill in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 60-year-old man from Berkeley, Calif. suffered major injuries on Sunday after helping the truck in which he was a passenger rolled over him.

On Sunday, March 3 at about 12:22 p.m., a 73-year-old man from Vacaville was attempting to drive his Ford F350 up Mandan Street just north of Apache Avenue. It was snowing, the wind was blowing and the roads were snowy and icy, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The truck couldn't make it up the steep hill and the two passengers got up to help push the truck, along with people from vehicles behind them.

They got the truck moving again, but the rear wheels started spinning and losing traction. The truck started to slide backward. One of the passengers who had been helping push the truck jumped out of the way in time, but the man from Berkeley fell to the ground and the truck ran over him.

The passenger sustained major injuries, according to the CHP, and was transported to Barton Hospital by Lake Valley Fire.

During the situation, all first responders had to position themselves at the bottom of Apache due to the icy roads.
