City surveying public on replacing Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day

During the last few South Lake Tahoe City Council meetings, members of the community have been speaking before the council to encourage the City to change the name of Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day.
A website dedicated to the change has been created by KeepTahoeTrue.org. The speakers from the group have asked Council to change the name "to do the right thing" and honor those who were here prior to Columbus's arrival.
To see how the rest of the community thinks about this possible move an online survey has been created.
Currently there are 10 California cities which have replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day; including: Berkeley, Santa Cruz, San Fernando, Burbank, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, San Luis Obispo, Watsonville and San Francisco.
The three-question survey is available until March 16, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. To take the survey, visit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WL2XXNM
The City will use information gathered in the survey for future decision making.
