Governor orders all Nevada K-12 schools to close Monday through at least April 6

Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak announced Sunday that all K-12 schools in the state will close through early April as the state looks to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

They will close through at least April 6. Sisolak said further closures are possible, depending on the state of the pandemic at that time.

“I realize this will cause hardships for our families, our students, and our school staff,” he said. “I assure you we have not reached this decision lightly.”

"Today, in coordination with the Nevada Department of Education and district superintendents around Nevada, I have ordered all of the State’s K-12 schools to close for students starting tomorrow and will remain closed, at a minimum, until April 6, 2020," said the governor on Twitter.

There are 500,000 students in Nevada K-12 public and charter schools.

At this time there are 21 people in the state have tested presumptive positive for COVID-19.
