Suspect in custody after standoff at South Lake Tahoe motel

1:30PM Update: The suspect who fired on police in an early morning standoff has been identified as 23-year-old Joseph Hill from Orangevale, Calif. The suspect remains in stable condition at Barton Memorial Hospital and is still being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The El Dorado County Critical Incident Protocol has been activated. This protocol brings investigators from the El Dorado County DA’s office, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s office and Placerville Police Department to conduct the Officer Involved Shooting investigation. As a matter of protocol, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Park Avenue between Manzanita Avenue and Pine Boulevard is still closed at this time for the ongoing investigation.
Police are asking for everyone to please avoid the area.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A hours-long stand off at a South Lake Tahoe motel has led to the arrest of a suspect.
After 3:00 a.m. Friday, March 19, South Lake Tahoe Police were called to the 3 Peaks Resort at 931 Park Avenue after it was reported a man was trying to break into a room. Upon arrival, the suspect open fire on police with an assault-style rifle. An officer returned fire, hitting the suspect who then retreated into an area at the motel.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) SWAT team was called in with its MRAP vehicle, as was backup from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and K9 units.
Police and Crisis Negotiation teams eventually got the suspect to surrender at approximately 5:30 a.m.
The suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Barton
Memorial Hospital.
No officers were shot during the standoff.
The suspect's information is not being released at this time. SLTPD is asking everyone to stay out of the area as the investigation continues this morning.
