The Great Library Refresh makes its second delivery with the help of school librarians and Cuppa Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - This week marked the completion of the second Great Library Refresh book delivery, bringing over 480 brand-new books to all six Lake Tahoe Unified School District libraries.

It's been incredible to witness the community coming together to turn this dream into a reality, helping us move these books from wish lists to shelves where they belong.

This would not have been possible without the help of the team of trusted school librarians who have given many hours to create wishlists, remove old books from libraries, and get students excited about reading. Kudos go to Wendy Copple (South Tahoe High School), Jessica Pacheco (South Tahoe Middle School), Jessica Briggs (Meyers), Susan Hennessee (Bijou), Sidney Stimac (Tahoe Valley), and Terra Deguire (Sierra House), and the Cuppa Tahoe staff and team for their help.

Did you know? On average, children under the age of 12 spend about three hours a day glued to screens. Research from the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) suggests that excessive screen time can lead to attention and learning problems, as well as lower academic performance. That's where reading comes in. It's not just about escaping to different worlds; it's about building essential skills like speech, comprehension, and logical thinking. The Great Library Refresh is the South Lake Tahoe way of fostering these crucial skills in children. With over 1,000 new books delivered to our school libraries, the community is well on its way!

And things are just getting started! While organizers are still in the early stages of fulfilling wish lists and revamping all school libraries, progress is happening. Each school librarian is teaming up with CuppaTahoe and Lift Literature to create quarterly book orders. This approach allows books to be processed in smaller batches, keeping the excitement for reading alive with new arrivals every season!

Thank you to everyone who has played a part in this initiative. Thank you to sponsors. Together, we're making a real difference in our children's education, one book at a time!
