Tahoe Derby Dames Beat Merced in Season Opener

The Tahoe Derby Dames recently kicked off its bouting season against the Merced Rollin’ Roulettes Derby Girls. In its second go-around against Merced, the Tahoe Derby Dames charged the green light and on St. Patrick's Day beat the Rollin' Roulettes on their home turf with a final score of 169-129.

“I was really proud of our girls and all of their heart. We are known for playing to the other teams level the first half and coming from behind to start the second half but we played strong the entire game," said Tahoe Derby Dames Captain Malice N. Chains. "Our vets helped keep the new girls heads straight and the new girls took everything in stride by proving themselves throughout the entire bout. I'm extremely excited to see how this season grows.

Chains also sent a shout-out to the girls who practiced daily, which, she said, provided last weekend's roster the strength and ability to make this win happen.

"By pushing us every scrimmage, we all grow in strength and skill every week,” she said.

Tahoe Derby Dames Coach Jack Hammer was more than pleased with the team's performance.
"I couldn't be more stoked with the team's ability to pull it together when it mattered most," he said. "It was an
outstanding effort on everyone's part. 1-0 is a fabulous start to a season. I can't wait to play Rohnert Park."

Tahoe Derby Dames Mission
Our mission is to operate as a financially sustainable all-female flat track roller derby league that fosters the development of the whole skater: sportswomenship, physical ability, the forming of a sister hood, and emotionally.
Sportswomanship is integrated throughout the League. We encourage skaters to value the uniqueness and dignity of each person and to understand the league’s moral and social obligations to our community. We are not afraid of brutal competition. We create a safe environment for contact sport, promote an active lifestyle for women, encourage alternative sporting options for women, and are dedicated to putting on a good show.
Tahoe Derby Dames gives each skater a chance to advance at their own rate while instilling a lifelong love for the sport of Roller Derby. Our ultimate goal is to be stronger, faster, better. So roll with us on our journey to bumps, bruises, and glory all for entertainment and charity.

About the Tahoe Derby Dames
The Tahoe Derby Dames are an all-female amateur flat track derby league that was established in 2008. Representing a wide variety of backgrounds and professions, the Tahoe Derby Dames strive to serve as positive role models for young girls in the community while introducing Lake Tahoe to a new, up & coming, family friendly sport.
We are skater owned and operated, and no skater is reimbursed for her time. In addition to working hard for our league, we also take an active role in our community, donating our time, energy and money to local non-profit and community organizations.
The Tahoe Derby Dames play by standardized rules set forth by the Womens Flat Track Derby Association (WTFDA).
