Mountain lion kills man in El Dorado County, injures his brother

SUNDAY UPDATE: Per a spokesman for the family, the 18-year-old victim has undergone multiple surgeries for his injuries and is expected to make a full recovery. The family is grateful for the prayers and condolences from the community however wishes for privacy to process this tragic event.

Additionally, there have been multiple “Go Fund Me” accounts allegedly set up in support of the family. These accounts are not associated with the family or authorized by the family, according to EDSO.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - A 21-year-old man died Saturday after being attacked by a mountain lion in a remote area near Georgetown in El Dorado County.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) received a call at 1:13 p.m. from an 18-year-old male who reported his brother had been attacked by a mountain lion in the area of Darling Ridge Road and Skid Road. The teen received traumatic injuries to his face and got separated from his brother during the attack.

At 1:34 p.m., EDSO deputies and paramedics arrived in the area, located the 18-year-old, and began to administer aid to him. Additional deputies began the search for the unaccounted brother.

At around 1:46 p.m., deputies observed a crouched mountain lion next to a person on the ground. The mountain lion was between the deputies and what turned out to be the missing 21-year-old. Deputies discharged their firearms scaring the mountain lion off so they could render aid. Unfortunately, the male was deceased.

Wardens and trappers from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife along with the El Dorado County Trapper responded to the area, located the mountain lion, and dispatched it.

More information will be released as it becomes available, but some reports state the men were out searching for shed antlers.
