Construction is scheduled to begin May 1 in South Lake Tahoe at what is being called the "Zephyr Cove Resort Corral and Bike Path Construction Project." When completed, there will be 1,500 feet of new pathways between the stop light at Zephyr Cove Resort and Warrior Way, new paved parking areas and improved erosion control and water quality areas due to a collaborative effort between the U.S. Forest Service, Zephyr Cove Resort and Douglas County.
The area is receiving two different improvement projects. One will be at the existing corral, where there will be a new paved driveway, parking lot, permanent erosion control BMPs, new manure storage building, concrete settling basin and corral runoff infiltration basin. There will also be a new office constructed which will include public restrooms.
This project will be funded by Granger-Thye funds and the non-parking lot work will likely begin at the end of this summer or in early fall.
A second portion of the project, under an agreement with Douglas County, will construct a bike path from the Zephyr Cove boardwalk to Warrior Way.
The bike path and corral parking lot construction will likely be completed before the July 4 holiday weekend which brings overflowing crowds to the area. These improvements will also make access to the Zephyr Cove Resort from the street a safer experience.
These projects will not affect the operation of the corral, which will remain open during their regularly scheduled season.
