Group against proposed vacancy tax in South Lake Tahoe plan protest

Event Date:
April 3, 2024 (All day)

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Those opposing the proposed $6,000 vacancy tax in South Lake Tahoe are invited to join others against the tax in planned protests on April 2 and April 3.

Signatures are being gathered to get the initiative on the November ballot to tax homes in the City that are vacant six months or more during the year.

A few South Lake Tahoe residents will be demonstrating against the proposed tax, a penalty for owning a vacation home and are unable to vote on the tax measure, if on the ballot.

"Those who care about democracy should oppose this Machiavellian maneuver to force families out of their homes and mandating a $6,000.00 per year tax on those who wish to keep them," said organizers.

The public is encouraged to join them:

Tuesday, April 2, and Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at the following times and locations

From 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the “Y” (the intersection of Hwy 50/Lake Tahoe Blvd. and Hwy 89/Emerald Bay Road)

From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the former Denny's at the intersection of Hwy 50/Lake Tahoe Blvd. and Al Tahoe Blvd.
