Whittell Track wins six events at Battle Mountain Invitational

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - The Whittell Warrior Track and Field Team picked up six event wins last Saturday at the Battle Mountain Invitational in Battle Mountain, Nevada.

Logan Robinson won his signature events the 1600m and 3200m. Logan broke 5 minutes for the second time this season finishing in 4:50. His time of 4:50.77 from two weeks ago in Folsom leads the state 1A. Later in the day Robertson easily won the 3200m with a time of 11:23. He ran 11:00.32 earlier this season. The time leads all of Nevada 1A by 43 seconds. The Whittell boys also scored in three relay events helping the Warriors place 2nd out of 9 division 1A schools.

The 4x100 team of Nick Price, Owen Cranch, Peter Hansel, and Jax Cassidy ran a season-best 51.81 to finish seventh. The 4x200 relay team of Lincoln Ayers, Alekzander Lezama, Alex Rojas, and Rocky Laremore finished in 5th and added to the team total. The meet ended with Jax Cassidy, Owen Cranch, Peter Hansel and Logan Robertson finishing the 4x400 relay in 4th (4:10.8) adding 5 more team points.

The girls' team continues to impress as they work to repeat as Nevada State Champions. Ella Schweitzer won her 3rd high jump competition of the year with a best of 5’ 0”. Her 5’2” from the prior week leads all 1A competitors in the High Jump. Not to be outdone, Avignon (Avi) Rippet won 100m in 12.79 and placed second in the 200m (27.82) and also the Long Jump with a leap of 15’ 5”. Avi’s marks this season currently lead the Nevada 1A in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and the Long Jump. Fellow senior Ella Moretti ran a season-best in the 200m (28.53) and also placed 6th in the 100m hurdles (21.22).

The highlight of the meet for the Whittell girls was a blistering 4x200m relay. The team of Catiana Worden, Rippet, Ebba Kostman, and Moretti ran 1:57.8 for the win and a state-leading time by over 4 seconds.

Other scoring for Whittell was done by Ebba Kostman with 5th in the high jump at 4’6 and 7th in the 100 hurdles (21.59)

As a team, the Warriors placed 3rd overall with 62 points. 1A rival Eureka was second with 69. 3A Lowry HS of Winnemucca was the overall team winner.
