South Lake Tahoe roads to soon receive much needed attention

People driving through South Lake Tahoe have mostly likely cringed as their car finds a pothole on a local street. That, or dodged them all by driving in a zig-zag pattern that appears to be that of a drunk driver.

After a winter with extreme rainfall, constant snow removal and high groundwater, there is most likely no street that has been spared an outbreak of potholes.

After Tuesday's City Council meeting, help is on the way!

290 potholes will now be fixed with an extra $300,000 added to the City's roadway budget after the request was passed with an unanimous vote. The average pothole to be fixed is 40 square feet and six inches deep.

These funds will be used for quick repair in addition to a $1,602,947 project to rehabilitate 3.9 miles of roadway. Contractor Sierra Nevada Construction (SNC) was awarded that contract in September, 2016. In order to expedite the repair, the City Council voted to add the pothole repair onto SNC's contract. They will charge about $1,018 per patch including all overhead, traffic control, import and export of materials. By adding the job onto SNC's contract, a new bid did not have to be solicited which would have caused delay.
