SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Historial Society is holding another of its popular Tahoe History Talks on Tuesday, April 16 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Museum Complex. The speaker is Peter Goin, a UNR Foundation Professor of Art in photography and time-based media. The topic of his talk is "Lake Tahoe: A Rephotographic History."

Goin is the author of several "then and now" photography books on the Lake Tahoe region where he and his students explore photos of locations in the past and find the same spot today.

The presentation will be focused on his most recent book, published in

October. 2023. titled Lake Tahoe: A Rephotographic History. Peter and his research team spent more than two decades researching original images made in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Between 2009 and 2021, they revisited sites represented by those images and photographed them as they look today.

This is a visual journey of a changing and transformed landscape, the largest photographic survey of Lake Tahoe, and the definitive survey for many years to come.

The free talk is open to the public, but donations are welcomed. The museum complex is located at 3058 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. The museum bookstore will be open for purchases immediately after the talk. Consider a membership starting at $20 per year. Members get 10-20 percent off all purchases.
