LTCC celebrates two art exhibits with free closing receptions and artist talks

Event Date:
April 21, 2022 - 5:00pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — With COVID cases and mask requirements easing, Lake Tahoe Community College’s (LTCC) Art Department welcomes the community back to campus to enjoy two art exhibits, with free closing receptions and artist talks taking place on the evening of Thursday, April 21 between 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

In the Haldan Art Gallery located in the library building is the LTCC Faculty & Staff Art Exhibition, featuring large-scale ceramic sculptures by Bryan Yerian and Grace Weber; 2D artworks by Cathy Caple, Miles Hall, Julia Schwadron Marianelli, and Frances Melhop; and photographs by Jim Grant, Amy
Hackleman, Pat Leonard-Hefner, and David Mori.

A closing reception for this show will be held between 5:00 p.m. - and 7:00 p.m. in the Haldan Gallery on April 21. The artist talk begins at 5:30 p.m., and light refreshments will be served. The community is warmly invited to
explore the exhibition in person or virtually by visiting www.ltccartgallery.com.

This eclectic exhibition gives insight into the ideas and skills of the professional artists teaching and working at LTCC, and their unique and diverse studio practices. The opportunity to see the work of these artists collectively provides an appreciation of their techniques, concepts, and standing in the contemporary art world.

A second, solo art exhibit located in the Foyer Gallery in LTCC’s Fine Arts Building features Grace Weber’s show entitled, Exploring Alpine Clay and Glaze. Weber will host a free artist talk at 6:30 p.m. on April 21.

Weber is the 3-D Art Lab Technician and a student at LTCC who is graduating this year and moving on to complete her Bachelor of Fine Art. In her exhibition, which will be on display until June 16, Weber explores the relationship between herself and her surroundings by experimenting with rocks and clay from near her home in Alpine County to create functional and sculptural ceramics. By using locally sourced materials that she collects, processes, and tests herself, Weber attempts to bridge the disconnect created by living a consumerist lifestyle in an isolated community in the Sierra Nevada, where commodities such as fuel, food, and building materials are imported to make this lifestyle possible. By spending time collecting, observing, and testing the materials that make up her surroundings, she nurtures a working relationship with her environment that remedies the sense of separation that pervades modern life.

The Foyer Gallery is open during all open college hours. The Haldan Art Gallery’s hours are Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Fridays from 11:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., closed Saturdays and Sundays.
