Applications accepted online starting Monday for Sugar Pine Village affordable housing project

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With the first phase of the new affordable housing project in South Lake Tahoe nearing completion, applications will be accepted starting on Monday, April 15 for those interested in living there when they are finished in September 2024.

Applications are accepted first come, first served and can be done online. The City of South Lake Tahoe and its partners, Related CA, St. Joseph Community Land Trust, and the property management company, John Stewart Company, have been sharing the lease information with those on the housing waiting list over the past few months.

There will be help available at the South Lake Tahoe Library and the South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center starting at 8 a.m. on April 15. Representatives from the John Stewart Company, the property managers for the project, will be at the locations to assist in answering questions and help people access the online applications. Interpretation in Spanish will also be available.

The South Lake Tahoe Branch of the library is located at 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd., and the South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center is at 2501 Spruce Ave. #B.

There are 12 studios, 12 one-bedrooms, 23 two-bedrooms, and 20 three-bedrooms in this first phase. Each unit will be rented based on income levels - those living in them can only earn between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income (see attached sheets.) The second phase is due to be completed in summer 2025. There will be 248 affordable housing units at Sugar Pine Village when the project is completed.

Generally, affordable housing projects accept applications on a first-come, first-serve basis.
