Caltrans to hold public meeting on Meyers and South Lake Tahoe projects

Event Date:
April 24, 2019 - 5:30pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Long has been the joke that there are two seasons in Lake Tahoe, winter and roadwork. Both are holding up true for 2019 as we leave a long and heavy winter and prepare for several road construction projects.

On Wednesday, April 24, CalTrans is inviting the public to come out and learn about their three projects scheduled to begin on US 50 in the Lake Tahoe Basin this summer. The public meeting will be in the South Tahoe High School Student Union from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Highway 50 Echo Summit Sidehill Viaduct replacement project, the Highway 50/State Route 89 intersection improvement project, and the “Y” to Trout Creek Bridge water-quality and roadway improvement project will all happen this summer.

Caltrans staff and its contractors will be on hand at this Open House to provide information on the projects and answer questions.

A fourth project in South Lake Tahoe will also impact local traffic, the streetscape project on Sierra Boulevard. The length of the road will be torn up, sidewalks and bike paths added along with street lighting. This is a City of South Lake Tahoe project that will be completed by the same company working on the US 50 project.

All local projects are expected to break ground on May 1 with a one-year-building season on all but the Echo Summit Sidehill Viaduct replacement project which will take two seasons and require the road to be closed for 14 days either this fall or spring 2020.

The high school is located at 1365 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe.
