SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Providing a free and hot dinner to individuals and families who may be food insecure, or just in need of a nutritious meal, is a wonderful way to support the community. Every Monday, Bread & Broth (B&B) provides the opportunity to sponsor a meal through its Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) program and on Monday, April 15th, the HEROs’ organization from the Harrah’s and Harveys casinos hosted a meal in their efforts to show their support for their fellow community members.
HEROs’ was established many years ago as ‘Harrah’s Employees Reaching Out.’ Over the past 10 years, members of HEROs have been hosting 3-4 Adopt A Days annually, and many of the two casino employees have participated by volunteering 3 hours of their time to ‘reach out’ and help those who come to enjoy the hot meals served at the HEROs’ sponsorship dinners.
“We are thankful for the opportunity to serve our community,” was the quote collectively provided by the evening’s HERO crew which included Janice Dill, Sherry Newberger, Krysteena Palaroan, Heather Redlark, and Darlene Winkelman. “It is very rewarding to be a ray of sunshine on someone’s dark day. We are all blessed.”
The 106 dinner guests who came for dinner that night enjoyed themselves as they were served BBQ ribs, Mac & Cheese, BBQ baked beans, coleslaw, and a variety of desserts and drinks by the B&B and HERO volunteers. The dinner guests also receive 2-3 bags of dairy products, fresh fruit and vegetables, breads and desserts, and various staples to enjoy for the remainder of the week.
Bread & Broth appreciates the dedication of the HEROs’ organization members to its support of our dinner program by financially donating $350 to help cover the meal’s cost and providing a wonderful and enthusiastic group of employee volunteers to assist with the meals’ setup, serving, and cleanup.
Bread & Broth invites all community members to join them for a hot, full-course meal served every Monday at St. Theresa’s Grace Hall, 1041 Lyons Avenue, South Lake Tahoe from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
