Historic Tahoe Trout Farm opens for season

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The historic Tahoe Trout Farm in South Lake Tahoe will open for the 2018 season on May 1.

For over 70 years the trout farm has been providing families with the experience of fishing in their ponds and catching their dinner, or lots of dinners, as there is no limit to the number of fish caught.

Tahoe Trout Farm features two ponds fed by a deep water well, with the larger of the two ponds stocked with "catchables” and trophy rainbows in the smaller pond. Admission to the Tahoe Trout Farm is free; no fishing license is required and all ages are welcome. Bait and tackle, simple “reel-less” rods and fishing nets are also provided at no charge.

Participants are charged per fish, based on length, and staff can clean and pack the fish on ice for an additional fee, as well as provide recommendations for local South Shore restaurants that will cook your catch for you. If you don’t plan to take your catch home, they can be left at the Tahoe Trout Farm for donation to two local charities, Christmas Cheer and Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care.

The family owned and operated Tahoe Trout Farm first opened in 1946, with Jim and Jackie Vallier continuing the family tradition when they purchased it in 2012. The business is consistently rated in the top things to do in Lake Tahoe.

The trout farm is open from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. daily, May through October. Participants are encouraged to plan to spend at least one hour at the trout farm in order to check-out equipment, go fishing and get a great picture with your catch. Whether your kids want to catch their first fish or you simply want to have a fresh catch for the grill, this is the place to come for straightforward fishing fun.

Tahoe Trout Farm is located at 1023 Blue Lake Ave. in South Lake Tahoe. For more information, please visit tahoetroutfarm.com or call (530) 541-1491.
