Kudos: Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra thanks the community

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a successful fundraising season for the women of Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra, all due to the support of the community. They now have over $62,000 to give back to women and children of the South Lake Tahoe area through scholarships, grants, awards, summer book programs, and financial support for nonprofits.

It started with the inaugural Mad Hatter Tea Party at Valhalla on April 30. One hundred guests joined in the fun which included a photo booth, fabulous decorations, costumes, tea, food, mimosas, and a raffle. The 2nd annual Mad Hatter is already scheduled for May 19, 2024!

Then was the raffle of two vacations, a week on Maui, and a week at a timeshare anywhere in the world. Tickets were on sale for a couple of months, then the two winners were drawn by Mayor Cristi Creegan on May 12. The winner of the week on Maui was Kerry David, and the timeshare week was won by Amy Simons (see video below). Congratulations!

The Mad Hatter was a kick-off to the online auction of over 300 items donated by local businesses and community members. For two weeks the bidding was fast and furious with the final whistle blown on May 12 at 5 p.m.

New this year was the club's getting year-round support through sponsorships by the community. PREMIER SPONSORS of the club this year are Kim Valverde – Coldwell Banker Select Real Estate, Coldwell Banker Select Real Estate – Zephyr Cove, Carson Welding Inc., Tillson Law, El Dorado Savings Bank, Kerry and Wendy David, Dr. Paul and Cookie Rork, and Bank of the West.
