Lime scooters are returning to South Lake Tahoe as soon as weather permits, but in preparation of that day they are holding a Lime Launch Day on Friday, May 17 from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Lakeview Commons.
At the launch party, Lime staff members will be on hand to meet the community and introduce them to the Lime app. They will also be giving out helmets and promoting safety, as well as letting the public know the routes through South Lake Tahoe where the popular mode of transportation is permitted.
The party is being held, rain or shine (or snow).
Their first plan is to release 288 scooters by next week, gradually ramping up to a cap of 550 during the peak season.
"Unfortunately the weather is delaying our start but we will be unlocking the scooter network as soon as the storms pass through next week (TBD). We look forward to the Lakeview launch party this Friday and the Summer days ahead," said Stefanie Sarradet, operations manager for Lime for the Tahoe/Reno area.
Lime announced this winter that they would not be bringing their bikes back to South Lake Tahoe this year, just the scooter.
“The League helped bring Lime to South Lake Tahoe two years ago to provide a transportation alternative to cars. Since then we’ve collected data to inform future transportation planning and learned how it is one on-the-ground solution that can help mitigate the impacts of visitation on our community and on our lake. We are glad to see Lime’s scooters back for the summer and are looking forward to continuing our work with other partners to address how traffic impacts Lake Tahoe”.
