Celebrities Preparing for Lake Tahoe's American Century Championship Golf Tournament

In just two months the world of celebrity golf will take over South Lake Tahoe when the 25th Anniversary of the American Century Championship is played at Edgewood Tahoe.

Last week, two participants, former NFL Quarterback Trent Dilfer and Iraq war veteran Chad Pfeifer spoke recently with the media about the July 15-20 event.

"It’s the closest thing we will get to playing in a PGA event," said Dilfer. "I have played in Canadian tournaments, I have played in other mini tournaments but when you play at the American Century Championships you feel as if you are the PGA event, its treated that way, it’s that level of respect, professionalism and it allows us to kind of live out our dreams."

Trent Dilfer, a homeowner in Lake Tahoe for the last 15 years and a Super Bowl champion, is looking forward to returning to the American Century Championship. "Most of us feel it is the best week of the year, each week that you get to spend at the American Century Championship," he said.

War veteran and amputee Chad Pfeifer will be making his debut at the annual Tahoe classic. He is the Bush Center Wounded Warrior Champion where he scored a hole in one. "It’s really an honor to be invited to the American Century Championships, and for me to be honored at the 25th anniversary is pretty special," said Pfeifer.

"I love to compete, so I you know, going to try my best and my expectations are to you know, be up there at the top of the leader board but like I said if I am not I am surely going to enjoy the experience and not let my play to take away from that," said Pfeifer. Speaking of using golf for his getting used to a prosthetic leg: "Golf gave me a chance to get outside, get out of the hospital and just gave me that sense of freedom. I would get to practice walking around my prosthetic, able to get outside get on different terrains, up-hill, down-hill, so it was a great sense of therapy. I could use that as a tool to help my walking."

Dilfer and Pfeifer will be joining almost 80 other stars from the sports and entertainment field, including one woman, Golf Channel host Holly Sonders and defending champion Billy Joe Tolliver. For a complete list of players, visit the official website.

"I am a real competitive guy, I know most of these guys are former athletes and all-stars, you know, they are going to be competitive as well, it’s just their nature," said Pfeifer. "Yeah, I am excited, I think I will compete well and I am sure I will have a great time."
