TTUSD and Auerbach Engineering team up on water quality project

Construction season has started in the Tahoe basin and the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District will utilize the warm weather and their student’s summer exit to complete projects that were approved under Measures E and U in 2014.

Auerbach Engineering Corporation was selected through a competitive bid process to provide Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) services for the Tahoe Lake Elementary reconstruction and the Rideout/Tahoe Lake Elementary temporary relocation projects.

Tahoe Lake Elementary, serving grades TK-4th, is the oldest school on the north and west shore and will undergo expansion and modernization to meet the needs of today. Temporary classrooms will be added to the Rideout Community Center to house the students of the elementary school during the 2017/2018 school year to accommodate the construction/ modernization. This will allow construction to be completed in one year instead of the two years originally scheduled for the project.

Wally Auerbach, President of the firm noted that the school sites were developed long before water quality protection was a concern in the region. “These projects will not only improve school facilities for students, they will protect the environment as well,” he said.

“I am excited to participate in the modernization of this campus and ensure it is completed in a manner that protects our water quality," said Nathan Chorey, Auerbach’s Project Manager.

With storm water management a basin-wide priority, Auerbach Engineering will be employing its expertise in developing the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan for the project. Also, in accordance with the Construction General NPDES Permit for the Lake Tahoe Basin, Auerbach will provide daily inspections with visual monitoring and reporting, tailgate training to job-site personnel and will be promoting continual storm water management awareness at the project sites.
