The new public safety memorial wall was dedicated during a public ceremony on Friday. Fire trucks and patrol cars lined the street as law enforcement, US Forest Service and fire personnel gathered at the Happy Homestead Cemetery in South Lake Tahoe.
Speakers included Undersheriff Randy Peshon, South Lake Tahoe Police Chief Brian Uhler and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue Chief Jeff Meston.
The name of Fallen USFS firefighter Mikey Hallenbeck is on the new wall and his parents were in attendance during the emotional ceremony. Tributes engraved on the wall are also Lake Valley Firefighter Paramedic Mitch Underhill, SLTPD Officer Mark Hounsell and EDSO Deputy Pat Tener.
Chief Uhler said Hounsell's children will be able to visit the memorial as they grow older and see how their dad's service was appreciated.
"It was a great opportunity for all to come out and support the people who keep our community safe," said Mike Warren, District Manager for Happy Homestead Cemetery District.
