Beverly Etter, long-time teacher, dies at 85

Long-time South Lake Tahoe resident Beverly Helen Etter went home to be with Jesus peacefully with her family by her side on March 10, 2024, in Chico, California. She was 85.

Beverly, “Bev”, was born to Everett and Helen Milne, the second daughter of four girls. She is survived by two of her sisters, Margie Dunham of Redding, CA and Darlene Rumboltz (Matt) of Round Mountain, CA, and preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Coffman.

Beverly was raised in Cohasset, California, and attended Chico High School and Chico State University where she received her teaching degree. In 1961, Bev started her teaching career in Weaverville, CA and in November of that year, she married her longtime friend, Frank Etter. Beverly and Frank had two daughters, Janean Minter (Rob) of Chico, CA, and Andrea Kennard of Redding, CA. Beverly’s biggest blessings and her pride and joy were her family including six grandchildren: Wayne Kennard, Monique Kauffman, Zachary Minter, Joshua Minter, Justin Minter, and Clayton Kennard, and her great-grandchildren: Tanner, Kylie, Sophia, and Samantha.

Bev was a full-time teacher for 32 years, teaching in Weaverville, Corning, Chico, and South Lake Tahoe. Upon retirement, her passion for teaching brought her back and she substitute taught for an additional 22 years in South Lake Tahoe. In the total of 54 years, Bev taught, loved, and made a difference in the lives of over ten thousand children.

All are welcome to attend a celebration of life to be held at the Cohasset Neighborhood Church, 10153 Cohasset Road, Cohasset, California on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers: A memorial bench will be placed in Beverly’s honor in South Lake Tahoe at Sierra House Elementary School.
