Car fails to yield, hits Lake Tahoe Unified School District bus, injuring two

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There was a collision between a bus from the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) and a Toyota Rav 4 on Friday morning, just before 8 a.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the bus was traveling on Sacramento Avenue when the Toyota pulled out from Merced Avenue where there was a stop sign, failing to yield to the bus which had the right of way. The vehicle then hit the bus.

One minor in the car and one in the bus had minor injuries. LTUSD spokesperson Teresa Schow said the injured occupant in the bus was transported to the hospital in an abundance of caution.

The bus had minimal damage and the vehicle had moderate damage but was still driveable, according to CHP.

Schow said all families were notified about the incident right away.

"Safety is our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation during this challenging time," said Schow. "Let’s come together as a community to support one another and promote safe driving practices."

CHP said no citations have been issued at this time and the incident is still under investigation.
