Three South Tahoe FC teams win a combined five championships

It’s been a championship-filled last few weeks for South Tahoe FC, the successful competitive youth soccer organization based in South Lake Tahoe.

The South Tahoe Futbol Club U-12 boys dominated their bracket and posted a convincing 7-1 win in the championship against Elko Elite FC at the Wild West Shootout last weekend in Carson City.

Coached by Dave Rios and Mike Luis, the squad outscored the opposition 21-1 and notched four tournament victories. The blossoming squad also claimed the NorCal Premier League Bronze league title this spring after going undefeated against teams from the Sacramento area. They outscored teams 31-4 during league play.

The STFC 2011 girls, meanwhile, also won the Wild West Shootout last weekend after beating Sierra Surf 8-0 in the championship game. They outscored teams 25-4 and won all four tournament games, including two wins over teams a year older.

On Saturday, the STFC 2011 girls won the Reno-based GBYSL Select Gold Division championship with a 1-0 win over the Sierra Nevada FC Strikers at Golden Eagle Regional Sports Complex in Sparks.

Coached by Jeremy Evans (Lake Tahoe CC men’s and women’s head coach), Michael Tuttle, and Luis Rodriguez, this team is made up of players from Tahoe-Douglas-Carson-Dayton. The team has won seven straight games and will represent Nevada at the USYS Far West Regional President’s Cup later this month in Salt Lake City.

South Tahoe Futbol Club (STFC) will host the 28th annual Come Up for Air (CUFA) tournament later this month in South Lake Tahoe. Girls play June 15-16 and boys play June 22-23. The tournament attracts over 450 teams annually and an economic benefit of $2.5 million annually to South Lake Tahoe businesses.
