Tahoe Youth and Family Services celebrates 50 years serving the community

Event Date:
June 30, 2024 - 12:00pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif - Tahoe Youth and Family Services (TYFS) cordially invites the community, former board members, staff members, and clients to join them in commemorating 50 years of unwavering support for runaway and homeless youth in South Lake Tahoe. Originally known as Awakening Peace, TYFS was established as one of the 50 national pilot programs under the Federal Runaway and Homeless Youth Legislation Act of 1974. Since then, it has been a beacon of hope, providing shelter, support, and a path to a better future for countless youth.

The enduring success of TYFS over the past five decades is a testament to the power of community and collaboration. TYFS says it owes its longevity and impact to the unwavering support of the community and its partners. During their 50th celebration on Sunday, June 30, TYFS will be honoring a remarkable group of individuals who have been instrumental in their journey, including Terry Price, Kerry Campbell-Price, Gerry Orton, and Kim Gaghangen. Their contributions have not only changed the lives of numerous youth but also shaped the future of our community.

This significant event will also symbolize the reopening of the drop-in center, a safe space where youth can "Get Recharged, Get Resources, and Get Respect."

The event is scheduled for Sunday, June 30, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at TYFS, 1021 Fremont Avenue, South Lake Tahoe. It will be a heartwarming occasion with snacks, refreshments, live music by Annie Davidson, and an opportunity to learn more about TYFS programs and meet our collaborating partners.
