NDOT work zone updates for Lake Tahoe

Work zone updates from the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) for the Lake Tahoe area. Traffic in work zones will either be reduced to a single lane with flagger control or shifted lanes with reduced speeds. Drivers can expect up to 30-minute delay times. All work is weather and temperature permitting, and subject to change.

MT. ROSE HIGHWAY (SR-431)

Paving

Due to equipment and traffic control issues, paving operations were suspended Thursday this week. Crews will finish paving the final 1-inch lift of asphalt from the Summit through the Meadows on Monday, June 27. The remaining portion of the roadway, from the Meadows down to the SR-28 roundabout, will be repaved starting in August this year.

Barrier Rail
Through August, crews will continue to remove and replace old barrier rails along the roadway. The new concrete barrier rail will stand 42-inches high, approximately six inches taller than the old barrier, providing additional safety measures including higher impact strength. The new barrier will also feature the decorative boulder pattern that can be found on the newer barriers in the area, such as at the SR-28 roundabout. NDOT and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) collaborated on the approved color of the barrier to complement the natural landscape.

Working hours are Mondays – Thursdays from 3:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays from 3 a.m. until noon.

MARLETTE CREEK (SR-28)

Construction activities are changing at the Marlette Creek work zone. Drivers can expect to stop at the same location; however, traffic flow will now be controlled by flaggers as crews will be using a crane to help build a drainage structure. Flagger control will continue in this work zone for the remainder of the season.

For everyone’s safety, please pay attention to construction signs, drive with caution and obey flagger commands.

Working hours are Sundays 8 p.m. – Fridays noon, including nighttime.
