STPUD moves board meeting to July 3

The South Tahoe Public Utility District board meeting has been moved to July 3 at 9:00 a.m. since their normally scheduled meeting for the first Thursday of the month fell on the 4th of July.

On the agenda are normal business items as well as the Larch Avenue Sewer Pipeline Emergency Repair discussion and possible vote. Repairs need to be made on Larch Avenue and the board will decide from evidence if the $100,000 project is an emergency, therefore being exempt from a delay resulting from a competitive solicitation for bids and from California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requirements.

Staff believes the bottom of the sewer pipeline that runs west on Larch Avenue from the intersection of Sonora Avenue has completely failed mid-span, presenting an

imminent threat to the public and the environment. They have videotaped the sixty-year-old pipe and saw the middle approximately 100 feet of main was under water and obstructed with sand in an area with a high water table (eight feet below ground surface). Due to the high groundwater conditions, special equipment will be required to remove and replace the affected segment of pipe.

The meeting will be held in the STPUD board room at 1275 MeadowCrest Drive, South Lake Tahoe.
