New fireworks company for the South Lake Tahoe July 4th show

There's a new show in town, and tens of thousands of people will get to see it for the first time on Independence Day.

While many South Lake Tahoe fireworks fans might not even notice, this year's stunning "Lights on the Lake" pyrotechnical performance is now being created by world-renowned 'Fireworks by Grucci' out of New York.

Grucci is a sixth-generation family owned company who owns two Guinness World Records and have been putting on fireworks shows around the world since 1850. They are known as the "First Family of Fireworks."

They have created the fireworks at seven consecutive U.S. Presidential Inaugurations; the Olympic Games in Beijing, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles and Lake Placid; commemorations such as the Centennial of the Statue of Liberty and star-studded extravaganzas including the grand opening of the Atlantis Dubai and the Palm Jumeirah Island in the United Arab Emirates. On New Year’s Eve 2013, their display included 479,651 fireworks that were set off above Dubai’s skyline. They also just created the fireworks show at the World Cup in Dubai.

Pyro-Spectacular had been the local fireworks team until this year. According to Mike Frye of LTVA, there was a vigorous bidding progress for vendors. "The Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority (TDVA) felt Grucci presented Nevada's values more," said Frye.

"They have been shooting the Incline Village show for years so they are familiar with setting off fireworks over the lake," Frye said of Grucci.

The TDVA on the Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe is now the sponsor of the event.

There was the announcement that Grucci created a free app for the show that would provide synchronized music for the show, but local stations KRLT-FM and KOWL-AM have been the sole music source for the show.

Radio station Manager Steve Harness hadn't heard about the app yet and said he'd be curious how Grucci would make the streamed music not be delayed. Nobody from Grucci has contacted him about the technical issues involved.

South Lake Tahoe radio stations KRLT-FM and KOWL-AM can be found on 93.9FM and 1490AM. They will have a pre-show over the airways and then the synchronized music once the fireworks show starts.
