South Shore Community Wildfire Protection Plan Stakeholder Webinar

Event Date:
July 12, 2023 - 10:00am

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Basin Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) is being updated to reflect the needs of local communities around the basin. It has been seven years since the plan was last updated, and during that time there have been a lot of changes in the landscape, including the completion of many fuels reduction projects, substantial development of Fire Adapted Communities, and the impacts of the Caldor Fire in South Lake Tahoe.

The plan is a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local agencies, along with community stakeholders, to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires in our area.

There is an upcoming South Shore Stakeholder Webinar for the CWPP on July 12 from 10 am. to 12 p.m. This meeting presents a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to actively contribute their input, questions, and concerns regarding the CWPP. The plan is a crucial document that outlines the community's strategy for mitigating wildfire risks and strengthening our preparedness and response efforts.

The purpose of the CWPP update is to ensure that the plan remains current and reflects the changing conditions and needs of our community. It will incorporate the latest technology and best practices for wildfire management and prevention, as well as the input and feedback of community members. CWPPs are essential as they help reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires and increase the resilience of communities.

During the webinar, Tahoe Resource Conservation District will provide an overview of the CWPP, including its objectives and strategies, and address any questions or concerns the public may have. Also, you will have the chance to ask CWPP related questions to local fire agency representatives from South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, Lake Valley Fire Protection District, Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, Cal Fire Amador - Eldorado Unit, and US Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.

By attending this meeting, you will:

- Learn about the Lake Tahoe Basin CWPP and its importance.
- Share your valuable insights, experiences, and concerns about wildfire prevention, preparedness, and response.
- Engage in meaningful discussions with fellow community members, fire district representatives, and other stakeholders.
