Electra Fire in Amador County now at 3800 acres, 5% contained

UPDATE 8:00PM TUESDAY: The Electra Fire slowed today and is now 3,800 acres in size. Firefighters have been able to gain a 5 percent control line on the fire that is burning in dry grass near Electra Rd and Hwy 49 near the Amador and Calaveras county lines, outheast of Jackson in Amador County.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Lake Tahoe should expect some haze again on Tuesday from the fire.

About 100 people had sought safety at a PG&E building after a sheriff's deputy guided them there when the single road out was blocked by burning embers. They were there for about five hours and all have now been led out of the fire area.

UPDATE 7:15AM TUESDAY: The Electra Fire is now measured at 3,034 acres and has no containment according to CalFIRE. The fire is in Amador County on Electra Road and Hwy 49, southeast of Jackson. All evacuations from Monday evening remain in effect.

Evacuation orders are in place at the Electra Fire, a fast-growing fire near the Amador and Calavares county line south of Jackson. The fire started Monday afternoon at about 3:44 p.m., and by 7:20 p.m. had grown to 959 acres with no containment.

Power is out to at least 2.600 PG&E customers in Amador County.

The fire is burning on a steep hillside in rugged terrain.

According to KCRA-TV, about 100 people were enjoying the holiday at Vox Beach when the fire hit and went to the Electra Road PG&E station for safety. They are currently stuck at the station due to the fire.
